Hollowbody with Twangy, Vintage Character

The Epiphone Emperor Swingster injects twangy, vintage character into a classic design. SwingBucker pickups yield vintage-inflected twang

At the heart of the Swingster are Epiphone's SwingBucker pickups. Specially designed for the Emperor Swingster, these humbuckers offer excellent no-hum performance and feature classic Alnico V magnets, enamel wire, and overwound coils for the perfect combination of warmth, bite, and twang. The guitarists here at Sweetwater are completely enamored by the one-of-a-kind vintage-inflected twang that can be coaxed out of the Swingster. Once you plug in, it's hard to put it down!

Series/parallel switching, vintage-style vibrato

Two push-pull tone controls allow you to change each pickup's output individually from parallel to series wiring and create a palette of useful sounds. Go from warm humbucker tones to "quacky" single-coil-type sounds and everything in between. Of course, any swinging machine needs a vibrato — and the Epiphone Emperor Swingster is no exception! The Swingster includes a licensed Bigsby vibrato with an original-style wire handle as preferred by guitar legend Chet Atkins.

Swingster

Absolutely amazing guitar! I was concerned about the pickups as some of the other reviewers had said they weren't all that great, but in my opinion they sound fantastic and the range of sounds you can get out of the instrument with the independent phase switching is just awesome. It feels very solid, it's easy to play, and it stays in tune very well. The only minor gripe I have is the pearloid binding on the neck makes it a little difficult to see the fret markers on the sides, but to me that's pretty minor as I'm not a gigging musician and I'm not overly concerned with hitting wrong notes. I can see how it would be a concern for someone playing live, though.

Sounds and looks great, and well built.

I am a luthier for a living, so I design and build guitars. I do not build hollow bodies, therefore I had to make a purchase if I wanted one. The price point on this guitar is just what I wanted to spend. This guitar is well-built and feels and plays great. The sound is just what I would be expecting from a hollowbody; The Bigsby is just a plus.
As usual the people at Sweetwater that inspect these guitars did a great job. I could not find the slightest flaw on this instrument.
This is the only place I would recommend buying a guitar online. My salesman, Dan, is also a wealth of knowledge for the gear Sweetwater sells.

Underwound beauty!

Stunning looks, Great price. Versatile sounds. Series/parallel means you get humbucking warmth in series and continued humbucking, silent and clear, in parallel. Parallel becomes a good simulation of something between single coil and Filtertron again with no coil split hum syndrome. Product description calls the pickups overwound,,,but at 8k DCR let's call them slightly overwound PAFs...a clarification not a complaint. I recommend loading this with some flatwounds and enter that gorgeous, smooth blissful timbre.

SO GOOD!!!! Plays great for an epiphone. The finish is great. No regrets on getting this guitar!!

Great guitar for that hollow body tone

Very happy with this guitar. Impressed with the quality of the construction and finish. Beautiful clear tone with the pots open. But I'll note: If ever there was a guitar that could use a treble bleed circuit it's this one. For the few pennies it would cost, I suggest Epiphone consider this addition. This guitar came with 11's which is perfect for this type of guitar and really makes the tone pop. If you're thinking of buying this and putting 10s (or God forbid 9s) on it, then this is NOT the style guitar you! I have no issues with the Bigsby or Grover tuners, but non the less I intend to upgrade to the locking version of the tuners (Grover 502C), which should improve ease of string changes and tuning stability. This is a beautiful playing, sounding, looking machine! There's nothing like that unique, organic, hollow body tone.
