Premium 6-string Electric from Ibanez

The Ibanez Premium S1070PBZ 6-string solidbody electric guitar delivers a unique tonal output thanks to a 5-piece poplar burl/walnut/curly maple/panga panga top and an African mahogany body — a veritable smorgasbord of exotic tonewoods. In addition, an 11-piece neck with a rosewood fingerboard feels smooth and has incredible response and playability. A trio of pickups — two humbucking, one single-coil — with a 5-way pickup switch gives the S1070PBZ a massive array of tonal options and stylistic approaches. And the Edge-Zero II tremolo bridge helps create epic sustain and superior note definition — this electric is loaded for rock and roll. Just ask the many players here at Sweetwater who enjoy the Ibanez Premium series of electric guitars.

Your fingers will fly on this Wizard-7 super-fast neck

As one of Ibanez's fastest necks to date, the Wizard-7 is an 11-piece panga panga/maple/walnut/bubinga neck that is an absolute pleasure to play. This slim and super-comfortable neck lets you pull off lightning-fast runs and arpeggios with ease, but it still gives you the substance you need for gripping chords. Plus, with its neck-through construction, the S1070PBZ delivers epic sustain. From the first time you wrap your hand around the Premium S1070PBZ's Wizard-7 neck, you'll know you have a guitar that was built with performance in mind.

Great stability, sustain, and articulation

The Ibanez Premium S1070PBZ features an Edge-Zero II tremolo bridge — an expertly designed system that not only provides killer sustain but also amazing stability for staying in tune. The Edge-Zero II tremolo bridge lays nearly flush to the guitar's body and has features for adjusting tremolo response and string tension via the Ibanez-designed Zero-Point system located on the back of the S1070PBZ body.

Versatile pickup configuration

The pickup configuration on the Ibanez Premium S1070PBZ is a work of art in itself. A DiMarzio Air Norton humbucker in the neck slot kicks out deep, warm tone without muddying out when driven hard. A second humbucker at the bridge, the DiMarzio Tone Zone, features brilliantly high-output yet delivers tremendous dynamic range, so you can get even more tones out of your guitar. Chords are huge, even single notes have depth, and the DiMarzio Tone Zone's patented dual-resonance coils deliver killer overtones. Finally, a single-coil DiMarzio True Velvet sits in the middle position, nailing that vintage single-coil tone. Engineered to emphasize the "sweet spot" where the highs are bell-like, the True Velvet uses a special magnet stagger to avoid the harsh tone you can get above the 12th fret on the higher strings.

Ibanez Premium S1070PBZ Electric Guitar Features:

  • 16mm poplar burl, walnut, curly maple, and panga panga top and African mahogany body provide a complex tonal response
  • Prestige fret-edge treatment for ultra-smooth feel
  • 11-piece panga panga/maple/walnut/bubinga neck
  • Wizard-7 neck is stronger and more resonant than 1-piece necks
  • Edge-Zero II bridge for maximum sustain and tuning stability
  • DiMarzio custom pickups deliver a massive array of tone
  • Extended sonic range and premium appointments
  • Luminescent side dots ensure your hand placement is always correct on dark stages
  • Split-second string changes and enhanced stability courtesy of Gotoh MG-T locking tuners

Great Guitar - Great Price

This really is a very nice guitar. I have never really followed Ibanez before, although I know there are some great signature artists out there. This guitar exceeded all expectations from a quality and playability perspective. I have always been a "Gibson Guy" although I do have a couple of stratocasters. The quality and fit and finish of this guitar is really exceptional. It sounds great, and the neck is really fast, yet solid.

I am still getting used to working with the whammy bar and not hitting it with my hand as I am palm muting, but that is starting to come along with some practice. I love the tone I'm getting out of these DiMarzio pickups, good lots of pinched harmonics and squeals.

I am very impressed by this guitar if you couldn't tell! And I guess even more so because I did not expect to like it so much.
Music background: Experienced pro.

Love it! Love it!

Fantastic looking guitar with a superb finish. It plays like butter and sounds great with the DiMarzio pickups. I am extremely happy with it! The only con that I see at this point is the input jack. With it being recessed into the body it's hard to grasp the case on the plug so you have to pull on the cable to get it out of the guitar. I assume it'll be easier once the jack loosens up a bit. I can deal with that for a spectacular instrument like this!
Music background: Playing music for over 50 years. 66 years old and still gigging regularly.

Prestige

This guitar is basically a prestige with a premium stamp. I have a Nita Strauss signature jiva10, I played many RGs over the years. I got that same feeling with the s1070 as I I did the first time I played a Jem, the neck was amazing and fast. The stainless frets sustain forever. Locking Gotoh tuning pegs check, locking Edge zero with Zero point, check. The jiva don't even have that sadly. The guitar is light, really light and thin. It has a really rick tone especially for the weight/volume of the guitar. It definitely can shred, but sounds and feels good to play just about any style on. My only gripe is the bridge pick up has a lot of hum. I may just be spoiled from the jiva10. Pictures don't do these guitars justice, you have to see it in person. Also thank you to James Wroblewski for helping me with this order. Also I see some reviews that say the action is bad or intonation...as an experienced musician after you move a piano they have to be tuned, the same goes for a guitar it has to be set up after it acclimates to your climate. These are just wood and steel, so make sure you get it set up (intonation and action) by your local tech. I love this guitar. It is so personal, most of my cars had racing stripes, and my favorite colors to paint with are blue and brown (graffiti style) and it is scarred like me. Mine is so beautiful see for yourself and there is my jiva10 aswell.

Great Axe

I hadn't played any fast rock for a while, and then an old band buddy from our 80's hairband days decided to get the band of old farts back together. I had sold all my metal guitars over the years, and I decided to find a new one for this project.
The first thing I will say is that if you're looking for a versatile, light-on-your-back guitar, this is it. I was amazed at how different each pup sounds. The neck and bridge pups excelled at the tones I was looking for, but it was the middle pup that opened up tonal ranges I'd never explored. Now, as much as I've tried, I cannot get the Fender twang (that's what Fenders are for, I guess), but if you keep the mids low and tweak the gain to close-to-break up, the cleans on the middle pup are amazing--resembling those great chorusy cleans from the 70's and 80's.
The board is fast, so fast that I didn't need to work too much to regain the lost strength of my hands.Another thing I can't help but notice is how the guitar resonates despite being so thin. It's not as deep as my strat when unplugged, but close.
One thing I do want to mention as that these guitars paint jobs, while beautiful and unique, vary very much from guitar to guitar--and this is a good thing. However, I do recommend that you take advantage of Sweetwater's service of giving you detailed photos of each guitar. I saw one of these at a local shop, and I am so glad that I purchased mine through Sweetwater--I would've regretted not getting the pattern that I liked the most.
One last note that's common on most of these reviews: I beg anybody reading this to not hesitate buying from Sweetwater. I've bought plenty of guitars, both online and in shops, and NO ONE has come even close to giving such a great shopping experience. The guitar was set-up to my specs, and they gave me a great deal on the guitar and case that I wanted. Communication was silky-smooth, and that's always something I need when making a purchase. I could track my purchase through "Sweetracker," and they even contacted me to make sure everything was in order. I even got a bag of candy when I opened the box, and that made me smile. Sweetwater knows that we can choose to buy our instruments anywhere else, so they differentiate themselves by giving their customers all these extras. All I ever got from other retailers was exactly what I had ordered--how boring and impersonal. Thank you Jacob, Marshall, and Sweetwater. Once my wife forgets about my latest expense, I'll be looking to buy my next guitar from Sweetwater--I'm not even going to look anywhere else.
