PRS Semi-hollowbody with Big Expressive Potential

This PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-hollow electric guitar is a workhorse guitar with a distinctive edge. It sports a mahogany body with an eye-catching maple top. Plug it in and the dual vintage-inspired 85/15 "S" humbuckers come to life, serving up clear tone imbued with warm resonance. And the genuine PRS tremolo is one of the best in the business. Like all PRS instruments, this instrument's sheer playability will inspire you to reach for new creative heights. Onstage or in the studio, the PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-hollow delivers excellence that few guitars can match.

Semi-hollowbody construction

The Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 Semi-hollow electric guitar sets itself apart from PRS's other Custom-series instruments with its thinline construction. By using this popular construction technique, PRS has created an instrument that sings with the sustain and feedback-resistant nature of a solidbody, while imbuing its tone with extra air and sweetness. Not to mention, this also makes the PRS Custom 22 Semi-hollow a much lighter instrument for those marathon gigs.

Mahogany topped with maple looks and sounds amazing

To give this PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-hollow electric guitar a rich yet balanced sound, PRS began by choosing the tried-and-true combination of mahogany topped with maple. This instrument's mahogany body gives you natural tonal warmth, which is offset perfectly by the brighter tone of its maple top. Together, these tonewoods yield an incredibly balanced sound with body and snap.

PRS 85/15 "S" pickups offer remarkable clarity and extended tonal range

Playing your favorite licks through the PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-hollow electric guitar's 85/15 "S" pickups is a wonderful experience. That's because 85/15 "S" pickups are modeled after the 85/15 pickups Paul Reed Smith designed for PRS's 30th anniversary. From shimmering cleans to blistering high-gain tones, the clarity and extended tonal range provided by these pickups make the SE Custom 22 Semi-hollow the ideal workhorse guitar. At Sweetwater, we love the sweetened, vintage-inspired sound of 85/15 "S" humbuckers.

A Beautiful Sounding Guitar with Amazing Looks

My review is of the Semi-Hollow Quilted top. This guitar is first of all just absolutely beautiful. Light weight and comfortable to hold and play. From clean tones to heavy distortion is can do it all.
Smooth Rosewood Fretboard with bird inlays makes it look Classy!!

3-years in; My go-to, my familiar friend, my #1

I bought the vintage sunburst of this guitar almost 3 years ago (I don't seem to see it here anymore but this is the same guitar in a different color). I ordered it plek'd, an option I'd recommend for any guitar. There is nothing about this guitar I can say is even mediocre - it stands with any guitar at any price I've ever played, and is THE most comfortable, fast playing, great sounding gigging guitar I've owned (and I have had a few les paul customs, flaxwoods, american strats and teles, other prs (non-se)'s and .. you get the idea. It's also light, well balanced, good for high-gain, overdrive, clean, lets you control feedback (it IS a semi hollow, which concerned me a little when I ordered it, but has proven to to be a non-issue). Zach Garrison is a very attentive sales guy, and knew details about the guitar (looked at it before he shipped, brought it to the plek guy, etc). Between then, and now, I've bought numerous other guitars, to include another tele, another couple strats, a 7 string prs, a p90-lp, and when there is an important gig, I still grab THIS guitar and out the door. At one point, I replaced the pickups with dimarzio super distortions (see picture) - both neck and bridge... and TWO WEEKS later I plugged the stock pickups back in, as they actually sounded BETTER (still scratching my head over that one - I've used and loved SD's since the 80s, and this is the first time a stock import pickup won out).

I have just ordered another guitar from Zach, and while I am waiting, I realized I haven't reviewed this one, or Zach. I'm also hoping the new guitar can actually be an "as good" alternative to this guitar, qas none of my other guitars can claim that status.

So the ONLY thing I can say I dont like is the zebra pickup color - I prefer chrome/nickel OR at the worst, cream (I dont really even like black open coils).. but it's just a look and many folks do like the zebra look. I really don't know why PRS puts zebras in the se's - but it's just a personal thing.

Anyway, there it is.

First PRS guitar .

Nervous about PRS guitars !!! Played other brands all my life.
I took the plunge ! No regrets Guitar arrived in a nice soft case. Took the guitar out and saw this beautiful
Stunning Yellow Santana finish no flaws.
I put my strap on the guitar checked the tuning played it
for 5 min. And snapped the high e string! After learning about PRS locking tuners and replacing the string ,
I've been playing it for a month .
I play it through my fender champ 2 for now . Will play it through my Marshall 40 cream back speaker and my Vox 15 custom . I will try my distortion pedals next .
Great guitar I play a lot of slide guitar on this guitar .
I left the 9s on,I may put an extra spring on to hold the tremolo a-bit. Pickups sound awesome and the push pull pot works well . Maple Neck rosewood fingerboard is fast and smooth.
It has become my go to guitar.
PRS guitar job well done .

A Great Guitar!

Truthfully I'd been interested in a PRS for sometime as I'd never played one but have heard good things. When I saw this PRS SE Custom Santana on sale I decided to go for it. I'm really glad I did! This guitar meets all and even exceeds some of my expectations. When Carlos Santana came on the scene back in the late'60's I immediately liked his playing and noticed he was playing an SG. The SG was my "go to" at that time and for many years until switching to a Parker in later '90's. In recent years I've returned to an SG but the way this guitar plays and sounds I have a feeling this will be my new "go to". I especially like the neck - wide and flat( but not too much so)which with my older hands works a bit better. Most of my playing these days is in the studio and my sense is this guitar will give me many years of good service and lots of enjoyment. Also, having the option of using the tremelo (which, BTW, works very nicely) is an added bonus. Really glad I saw this guitar. And can't say enough good things about Sweetwater. I've bought a number of guitars from SW and am always impressed with the way they do business and how they care for the customer

You don't even have to play guitar to know that PRS instruments are in a league of their own. With their exquisitely figured tops and premium appointments, each PRS is a playable work of art. But it goes way deeper than the surface. Every time Paul visits Sweetwater, we get a deeper look at his amazing instruments. We've even hosted several PRS Custom Shop events, complete with Paul's personal Wood Library! Whether they're his most affordable SE electric guitars, top-quality acoustics, or amps, it's always amazing to see what PRS comes up with. What's more, we keep a ton of PRS guitars in our amazing Guitar Showroom, so the staff at Sweetwater can get hands on with all of their latest models. We'd love to tell you all about them.
