This Jumbo Acoustic-electric Bass Rules!

In the market for an acoustic-electric bass? Sweetwater has your axe: the Takamine GB72CE. When you take the stage with the GB72CE, all eyes and ears will be on you. With its solid spruce top, flame maple back and sides, and quartersawn-X bracing, this is one gorgeous, toneful jumbo. And the TK-40B preamp amplifies that great tone perfectly, letting you fine-tune it with 3-band EQ, gain and mid-shift controls, and a bass-boost switch. Sporting a speedy neck and graceful Venetian cutaway, the GB72CE delivers top-notch playability (this is a Takamine, after all).

This bass is ready for stage and studio

With its solid spruce top and maple back and sides, the Takamine GB72CE serves up rich, resonant sound. The slender maple neck sports a 16"-radius rosewood fingerboard for fast fretting, while the onboard Takamine TK-40B preamp system provides a built-in tuner, 3-band EQ, gain and mid-shift controls, a bass-boost switch, and EQ bypass for big-time versatility. The dovetail neck joint and graceful Venetian cutaway give you super-comfortable playability, while the rosewood headcap, pearl dot fingerboard inlays, abalone rosette, and lovely gloss finish deliver a major dose of class.

Takamine GB72CE Jumbo Acoustic Electric Bass - Natural Maple "PLEK Yeah!"

I special ordered the Natural All Maple optioned model of the Takamine G Series bass. The bass looks, plays and sounds great. I opted for the Sweetwater applied PLEK fret treatment with a new bone nut and I am more than pleased with the results considering the cost and extended wait time to receive the bass. I have not plugged it into an amp yet so I cannot speak to the electronics. One odd issue is that the on board tuner does not respond when playing the A string open. Not a deal breaker by any means. For me, Takamine means quality, value and complete satisfaction.

Great Sound plugged in and nice to just sit around and play acoustically. Very pleased!

Great Value!

I've played guitar for over 50 years, but recently been asked to learn the bass. I was practicing on a borrowed solid body electric which weighed a "ton", with hard action and I was progressing very slowly. When my Tak GB72Ce arrived ( in only a few days-Sweetwater wastes no time in getting things shipped), I was immediately impressed by the quality. Since it was not overly expensive, I thought that some corners might be cut in its quality. No corners cut here! It's beautiful! The action was so easy that I began to move quite rapidly through my skill level. I can now play almost any song which I can sing. Of course having some knowledge of guitar helped, but this bass guitar made it easier on my fingers, which were not previously very well equipped to handle the wider fret spacing and thicker strings. Its electronics seem very good and when played acoustically, while obviously not very loud, it still has a nice warm sound. This Tak disproved the old saying that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. This old dog learned quite a few new tricks on this wonderful instrument. Thanks Takamine and thanks to Evan at Sweetwater!

Quality Acoubass

Purchased this bass in solid black finish from Sweetwater about a year ago. Very attractive-looking guitar. Bass is not my primary instrument; I use it mostly for recording, but I have used it for live performances. We take turns on it, since we have no designated bass player. Everyone who has played it has been impressed. Plays easily and has typically great Takamine electronics. Played acoustically, a friend who is a bassist was able to get pretty good sound out of it using a more aggressive style of finger-picking. He swore he was going to run out and buy one after playing mine. Well worth the money. Very pleased with purchase after a year of ownership.
