A Parlor-sized Acoustic

The Takamine GY93 New Yorker acoustic guitar may be small, but it rewards you with its great sound, understated good looks, and smooth playability. Grab the fast mahogany neck, strum a few chords, and revel in the clear, full-bodied richness resonating from the diminutive parlor-style body and scalloped X-braced solid spruce top. The Takamine GY93 New Yorker is compact guitar with big attitude.

Great sound is in the details

The Takamine GY93 New Yorker acoustic guitar benefits from quality tonewoods and Takamine's painstaking attention to detail. With its scalloped X-braced solid spruce top, black walnut sides, and 3-piece black walnut/maple back, the GY93 looks great and is tonally versatile enough to handle whatever playing style your musical mood dictates. And if you're playing out, the Takamine GY93 New Yorker's stage-friendly gloss finish will certainly command your audience's attention.

Solid spruce top, black walnut/maple back, and black walnut sides are a magical tonewood combination

Sweetwater knows that the choice of top wood can make or break the sound of an acoustic guitar. For the GY93 New Yorker, Takamine chose a solid spruce top. Chosen as much for its look as its tone, solid spruce has an articulate sound with excellent projection. It's a great balance for the rich, dimensional sound of the 3-piece black walnut/maple back and rosewood sides. And because it's a solid-wood instrument, the tone of your GY93 New Yorker will only get better with enhanced harmonics and greater tonal balance as the years go by.

Takamine: a legacy of amazing quality, sound, and playability

The Takamine GY93 New Yorker acoustic guitar benefits from a half-century of Takamine guitar-crafting knowhow. Launched in 1962 at the foot of Japan's Takamine mountains, Takamine has been designing and building acoustic guitars that are seen in the hands of some of music's biggest stars. With quality and value as guiding principles, Takamine's instruments employ the finest tonewoods and construction techniques, something you'll discover for yourself as soon as you pick up your GY93 New Yorker for the first time.

Takamine GY93 New Yorker Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Parlor-style guitar with a distinctive voice
  • Highly resonant solid spruce top with scalloped X-bracing provides incredible volume and projection
  • 3-piece black walnut back with maple center produces a rich, wide-ranging sound with great definition

Great Little Guitar!!

I have been in the market for a parlor guitar for quite some time, mostly due to the reduced size. My other acoustic is a bulky dreadnought, and I wanted something smaller, but not a 3/4 size. I really liked the look of this guitar, with the natural wood and deep browns, and gold machine heads. It's hard to appreciate the appearance of this guitar until you see in person. It really is a great-looking guitar. My concern about buying a parlor, of course, was the sound. I've played with a few parlors at my local guitar shop and I had mixed reviews. Of the three or four I played, one sounded a little flat and muffled, one sounded pretty good, but the other almost sounded like a ukulele.

Because the Takamine I bought was a demo, it was discounted $; so I took a chance on it. This guitar sounds great!! While not as loud as my dreadnought, it still produces a bright sound. One of the complaints others have about parlors is they sound and feel really tight and tuned too high, which was kind of my first impression too. I tuned it down a half-step and was a little blown away by how much better it sounded. With the less tension and the lower action, the overall playability of this guitar became apparent.

This is a really fun and great sounding little guitar and I would recommend it to anyone.

Tone it down!

An extremely well-built parlor guitar. Absolutely gorgeous. And yet it is so high strung it is very difficult to play. The solution is tone it down from E to c. Brings out the nice bass sounds. Its just a much better sounding guitar and way easier to play.

Real Pet

I bought this guitar in order to have a small friendly instrument for fingerpicking while sitting in the kitchen after supper. :-) I wasn´t really bored with my dreadnought and super jumbo. Just wanted to enjoy its small body and its warm touch. No disappointment at all. Actually this is my most favourite guitar at the moment. No matter what style you play, this a real pet for every musician.
Music background: Rock´n Roll bands, some blues as well.

this is very nice guitar..

this guitar is surprising. the materials used on this model is not what you'd find on a guitar that costs as little as this. the finish is gorgeous and the rosewood back and sides with the maple wedge on the back is just beautiful. I've always played Martins that are much bigger, 0000 sizes are what I've played for years. I have a J-40 and an M custom that is mahogany instead of east indian rosewood. the J-40 is actually the prettiest sounding guitar that I've ever heard ,, and costs 10Xs what this guitar costs. I always have the guitar that I play on my stand in the living room, and I rotate them for a change. since I bought this parlor size it's the one I play because it's so small and comfy.
Music background: I've played for about 55 yrs, and when I was younger we would play around town. these days I just play at home and never even take my guitars outside

Great little,guitar

Always wanted a parlor size guitar and this one is the boss. I put custom light strings (11's) on it and the sound just blossomed. The shape of the neck makes it very comfortable. Great setup, usually aimed up makin some adjustments but not this time.
