A Semi-hollow Guitar for the Solidbody Crowd

The Epiphone ES-339 sports the look and tone of Gibson’s venerable ES-335, but its reduced-sized semi-hollow body makes it lighter and more comfortable than its full-sized cousin. Built from layered maple, this semi delivers warm, resonant sonic textures, while its solid maple center block gives you unbelievable sustain, tone, and feedback resistance. Epiphone’s Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers churn out a wide range of vintage-inspired tones; a laurel-capped, hand-rolled, rounded C-shaped neck facilitates effortless playability. Eye-grabbing body and fingerboard binding, a head-turning Epiphone Crown headstock inlay, and tasteful dot fingerboard inlays make the ES-339 a real looker, while a high-quality Graph Tech NuBone nut, rock-solid Grover Rotomatic tuners, and an Epiphone-exclusive LockTone bridge and tailpiece ensure that it performs well above its price tag.

Elegant construction with a reduced-sized maple body

Epiphone’s ES-339 features a reduced-sized layered maple body with a solid center block for maximum tone and sustain. This guitar’s hand-rolled rounded C-shaped mahogany neck offers easy, comfortable playability, and its Indian laurel fingerboard boasts a 12-inch radius, which is great for lead and rhythm playing alike. The guitarists here at Sweetwater really love the ES-339 — it’s one of those guitars that’s hard to put down!

Distinct semi-hollowbody tone

If you’ve ever listened to rock or blues from the ’50s or ’60s, then you’ve heard “the tone” you’ll find in the Epiphone ES-339. The phrase bell-like is most appropriate here, with notes that spring to life and then gently decay into a long sustain — perfect for lead lines and solos. While the tone can get bright and aggressive if you need it to, it’s the warm and smooth overdriven tones that made Gibson’s historic design such a popular guitar for blues and jazz styles. You’ll get the same magic with the Epiphone ES-339’s Alnico Classic PRO pickups. Voiced to get the perfect vintage tone, these pickups deliver all the warmth, punch, and bite you want and need from a semi-hollowbody guitar.

Modern hardware with classic looks

While the looks are classic, the quality of the ES-339’s hardware is all modern. You get Epiphone’s LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and LockTone Stopbar tailpiece for rock-solid action and stable tuning performance, and Grover Rotomatic machine heads keep you in tune while looking sharp.

Epiphone ES-339 Features:

  • A modern version of a classic guitar with an iconic sound
  • Semi-hollowbody design with a reduced body size for comfortable playing — great for solidbody players
  • Alnico Classic PRO humbucking pickups are versatile enough to offer up both vintage and modern tones
  • Solid center block enhances tone and sustain
  • Hand-rolled rounded “C” neck is extremely comfortable and easy to play
  • 12-inch-radius Indian laurel fingerboard is great for both lead and rhythm playing
  • Eye-grabbing single-ply body and fingerboard binding
  • Head-turning Epiphone Crown headstock inlay and tasteful dot fingerboard inlays
  • High-quality Graph Tech NuBone nut, rock-solid Grover Rotomatic tuners, and Epiphone’s exclusive LockTone bridge and tailpiece

Superb

Admitted Epi fan here. Great values. I'd previously purchased a Dot Studio from Sweetwater. Loved the tones and the guitar, but never fell in love with the 335 body. Seemed cumbersome while playing standing though I'm 6'3". The 339 is the perfect solution for those sweet semi-hollow, humbucker drenched sounds, clean or driven. Kudos to my Sales Engineer Brian Hughes for a number of years of excellent customer service!
Music background: Ex-bands. Home studio recorder and songwriter.

Super helpful!

I knew I wanted the new inspired by es-339. David, the sales rep assisting me, made the purchase experience outstanding and helped me "see" their inventory of cherry 339's enabling me to pick out my specific guitar. Thanks for your great customer service!

Dream Struck

I purchased this guitar to see if I liked the style enough to actually buy a Gibson ES 339. After playing this Epiphone a few weeks I really can't imagine anything playing much better. I play and get caught away in the zone I call Dream Struck. It's simply an Awesome Guitar. That's partly because the team at Sweetwater take such care in setting every guitar up to be the best it can be. I've bought a lot of guitars over the years and so far the ones I purchased from Sweetwater have been perfect, right out of the box.
Music background: I started playing both Guitar and Bass Guitar at the age of 10. I’m now 63 and have played in Bands ranging From Christian music to Blues and Rock.

My 339 Guitar and Sweetwater

I have had my Epiphone 339 guitar for nearly a month now, and I thoroughly love it. Its very easy to play, though I wish my skill were better. Its resonant with what I think is great sustain. Its versatile in that I can play on the 339 songs that I would have just played on my acoustic and songs I would have just played on my Les Paul, All in all its a fun guitar to play, very comfortable, and just the right size (I am 5'&"). The only draw back its this guitar is keeping me from getting my work done! I constantly find myself becoming distracted, picking up and playing my 339.

I would like to also say something about the company I bought the guitar from. From my experience in buying this guitar and learning more about Sweetwater, I am convinced that not only is it the best online guitar store, it is likely one of, if not the best company period. From now on there are only two guitar retailers I will be dealing with, a local Ma and Pa type store near me and Sweetwater.
Music background: Amature, I think I am at an intermediate level.

Epiphone E339 Semi Hollowbody Cherry

I have an Epiphone 335 and thought I would give the 339 a try and I'm glad I did, it is a very nice guitar, plays like a 335 and sounds just as good. Also it is a little more comfortable to play given its smaller size. It was flawless, absolutely beautiful. I'm very happy with the purchase.
