A Great Value-priced Acoustic Dreadnought

From the first strum, you'll get it — the Yamaha FG820 performs way above its modest price tag. This acoustic dreadnought's solid spruce top ensures a warm, strong sound that's enhanced beautifully by its mahogany back and sides. You'll love the feel of this guitar's Standard-shaped neck, which is topped by an easy-playing rosewood fingerboard. You also get an eye-catching cream-colored body and fingerboard binding. Plus, when paired with Yamaha's own Player Port app available on iOS and Android, the FG820 is the ideal tool for beginners looking to brush up on their playing with convenient access to tips, FAQs, and even a built-in automatic tuner.

Solid spruce top for great tone

Yamaha chose a solid spruce top for their FG820, due to its look and tone. Spruce has a well-rounded, articulate sound with excellent projection. These qualities have made it the undisputed leader for acoustic guitar tops. And because it's made from solid wood, the tone will age gracefully, with enhanced harmonics and greater tonal balance as the years go by. Beyond that, the FG820 boasts scalloped bracing, resulting in a larger low end and more projection.

Mahogany back and sides

The FG820 sports a back and sides made from mahogany. The strummers here at Sweetwater appreciate this wood for its warm, well-balanced tone. It enhances midrange frequencies while maintaining top-end clarity. The sound is gentle and full, which is ideal for vocal accompaniment. Combined with the lively and defined sound of its spruce top, you'll love the rich tone you get from the Yamaha FG820's mahogany.

Yamaha FG: the best-selling acoustic guitar series in the world

It's not hard to see why Yamaha's FG series is a world best seller. They were the first to offer full-sized dreadnought bodies, professional-grade tonewoods, and fast-playing necks on instruments that were affordable for beginners and pros alike. If you're just learning to play, you'll enjoy the comfort of the neck and body, the low string action, and the full sound. Seasoned players who need a quality backup will love the detail of tone, the acoustic power, and how effortlessly the guitar plays.

Yamaha FG820 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Left-handed Features:

  • Solid spruce top yields a well-rounded, articulate sound with excellent projection
  • Mahogany back and sides enhance midrange frequencies while maintaining top-end clarity
  • Scalloped bracing accentuates low frequencies and increases projection
  • Great-feeling Standard-shaped neck topped by an easy-playing rosewood fingerboard
  • Eye-catching cream-colored body and fingerboard binding
  • Makes a quality first instrument or top-notch backup

Decent guitar for Lefties.

After dabbling with right handed guitars upside down for years, this year I decided I really wanted to get stuck in and get proficient, so a decision had to be made. Continue upside down or go 'Left-Left'...so after looking around at the options LH, I stumbled across this model. I was looking hard at Sigmas, but when the store to play some and then told they had none in stock, (even tho their store website said otherwise), I switched my focus to Yamaha. I went in and played tiny amount (I can't play left/left), figured out a couple of chords, and was impressed. The guitar puts out a good volume, and has nice sustain. The neck has a nice profile (for me at least), and overall it looks good. This is my 4th Yamaha product, after owning a stage piano, Pa, and Sub, and I've always found great quality in their build.
This guitar is no exception. It will mature nicely as time goes on, and, like most of my studio gear now, will be a keeper. I highly recommend this guitar for learners and advanced players alike. Looking forward to recording with it, once I get some chords under my belt!

Sounds great

After searching the web for the very few lefty models I decided on this one. I was new to guitar and did not want something that was too cheap or poor sounding. Sounds good=more practice. This guitar did not disappoint and as a lefty I believe its the best value guitar for the sound it makes. You won't be disappointed.

This guitar sounds Beautiful

I owned a Taylor 12 string in the seventies , and an FG series in the eighties, and they were really no match for my new FG820, IT RINGS BEAUTIFULLY , covering all of the acoustic frequency range . My wife purchased this for me , and it arrived within 2 days . I would also like to compliment Dennis Konicki, as he has always been great to deal with . I missed the Gearfest this year , and hopefully next year will be a great one .

You won't find many decent left-handed acoustic guitars like this one...

My FG-820L finally arrived today in pristine condition and ready to play right out of the Yamaha box it came in (thanks to Sweetwater for their well-noted "55-point Inspection" program and top-notch packaging). This will officially be my first real guitar as I was looking forward to spending quite a deal of time on it while also taking up the electric bass for the first time as well. As for the guitar itself: don't let the "Made In China" green label fool you! This is still a Yamaha-approved product and they run a fairly tight ship when it comes to their Chinese factory in particular. A lot of experienced human hands factored in the making of these budget-friendly FG-800 series guitars and in terms of build quality, materials used (diggin' the solid tonewood top on these), and overall finish I would easily put them up with other established brands that are priced 2-3 times as much. Action on mine wasn't too high and the newfound scalloped bracing that Yamaha implemented for their latest FG line really comes through in the lower register. I'm just glad Yamaha was able to put out a quality left-handed FG variant at such a crucial price point because believe me, southpaws get NO LOVE from the industry in general. And if any of you out there are actually planning on making this guitar yours, I highly recommend getting the Yamaha hardshell case that was specifically made for the FG series (AG1-HC) along with it! Only real downside to the "Green Label" models is that they don't come with a case/gig bag option. The more expensive higher-end "Red Label" ones do, however, so best to keep that in mind. Now if only Yamaha would just put out a left-handed alternative to the FG-850 model which comes with a solid mahogany top as opposed to the usual spruce...
